* While the TLC claims this percentage of
sales was returned to players by way
of prizes, this has NEVER been true. This is
because they have kept 2% in reserve until
the rule change effective April 23, 2006. There
is no longer a reserve fund for Lotto Texas.
This was a hard fought battle but we finally
got rid of the reserve. However, this does not
mean that we will see 50% of sales because
they are offering a "guaranteed" prize of $3.

A breakdown of the players share of sales, the "prize allocations," is shown below.

Each and every retailer receives .05 cents in commission for every $1 he sells.
If you want to know if they are happy, ask your retailer how he feels about this.

The Commission writes a check to the School Foundation Fund for their portion.
From Lotto Texas, the schools portion has gone from 38% to 33% to 36% to 38%
over the years.

The 7% Administrative is what the Texas Lottery Commission operates on.
This is suppose to cover all costs including GTech.

Applicable to the first 6/54 matrix: Because the schools cut has
been lowered from 38% to 33%, they must increase sales
by 15.15% to break even. Needless to say, this NEVER happened!
The poor schools lost money on this rule change and they lost when
the TLC changed to the bonus ball game too.

*Just between May 4, 2003 and midnight on April 22, 2006, the TLC added $9,477,249 to the prize "reserve fund." This money came from the players share of sales but we have NOT received it. They plan on using the reserve money to guarantee Lotto Texas jackpots that may be over-estimated - like the $4, $5 and $6 millon jackpots. When the $9 million money is gone, we will see them jump through hoops to change the rule again!

- How To Figure Lotto Texas Sales -
July 30, 2000 - Professor Gerald Busald from San Antonio was kind
enough to share the formula for how to figure total sales for each
Lotto Texas game. Below is the email he sent me on
Sunday, July 30, 2000. The example below was for the drawing
held on Saturday, July 29, 2000.

Updated 4/24/06 - To figure sales for the newest 6/54 game, use
the same formula but use the new percentages which are as follows:
5 of 6 - 2.23%
4 of 6 - 3.28%

"Divide the 5 of 6 prizes (89 times $1276 = $113,564) by 2.7885% (55% of 5.07%) to get approximately $4,072,584. Using the same procedure with 4 of 6 (4298 times $67 = $287,996) divided by 6.8805 % (55% of 12.51%) gives approximately $4,185,249. The exact sales amount problably lies somewhere in between the two, you can't tell for certain because you don't know the "roll-over" amount from the previous drawing. (For the record - total sales were $4,073,832)

Incidentally, if you add the percentages in the first 6/54 rule, 68.24% for 6 of 6, 5.07% for 5 of 6, 12.51% for 4 of 6, and 12.18% for 3 of 6 winners, that only adds to 98% of the prize pool which is 55% of sales. Thus only 53.9% of sales (98% of 55%) is allocated to winners, the remaining 1.1% is administered."

Each night after the drawings, I do post the number of winners
and the payouts for each game. This information comes to me
from retailers who get the info from their lottery terminals. So, you
can figure the sales each night as the information IS available.
And many thanks to Professor Busald for his many insights
and generosity in trying to help the People.
